Dear Friends,
What an exciting time it is at Mill Ridge!

La Ville Rouge, the dam of 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro,
foaled a full brother to the Classic-winning colt on April 20, 2007. Another full
brother, Nicanor, born March 15, 2006 is nearby on the farm as well, and no doubt
will be a pretty public piece of property. Barbaro got attention like no horse ever
seen, including Man O' War and Secretariat. America fell in love with him, full-blown.
If there can be an upside to his tragedy, it’s the awareness he brought to the sport
and Nicanor will be cheered for by the public to succeed. The Jacksons are simply
great people and I hope they get another great one for the patience they’ve shown.
We celebrated with owners Starlight Stable and Donald J. Lucarelli; and breeders
Pam and Marty Wygod as Octave triumphed to become a grade 1 winner for the first time in the Mother Goose S.-G1 in June 2007. We also congratulate
our good friends Ann and Jerry Moss on the 2007 Santa Anita Derby-G1
win by
Tiago, who along with his half-brother, 2005 Kentucky Derby;
winner
Giacomo, are among the 20 G1 winners raised and/or
sold by Mill Ridge since 2000.
Some of these top-notch runners include: Round Pond who added another G1 to
our list in November as she was victorious in the 2006 Emirates Airline Breeders’
Cup Distaff; Germance who won
the 2006 Prix Saint-Alary-G1; 2005 NetJets Breeders’ Cup Mile winner, Artie Schiller; 2005 Santa Anita Oaks-G1 winner Sweet Catomine
who was named 2004 Champion Two-Year-Old Filly; as well as, Symboli Kris S, 2002/2003 Horse of the Year
in Japan.
True to it’s slogan of “raising and selling racehorses”, Mill Ridge
is ranked #1 by percentage of graded stakes winners, 4.5%, from upwards of 100 yearlings
sold (MarketWatch 6/09/06). Even though it is
customary for records to be established, as with the $9.7 million record September yearling sold in 2005, our ultimate reward is for this commercial
success to translate into top class racetrack performance.
John and I invite you to visit Mill Ridge. We are next door to Keeneland and the
airport. Please call us to visit and see the stallions any time.
