It’s a wonderful business if you have the support of a farm like Mill Ridge … everyone works together as a team, and they do a terrific job in terms of guiding you and communicating with you. I love working on the matings for my mares with Headley Bell. Nancy Dillman
Nancy’s story with Mill Ridge first began when she sent her mare Cacti to visit the farm’s stallion Diesis in 1984. The resulting foal was named Diminuendo who won the Epsom Oaks as a three year old and named Champion filly in Europe in 1988.Nancy Dillman’s most recent success is 2011 Horse of the Year, HAVRE DE GRACE, who was the result of a mating advised by Headley to Easter Bunnette, a mare purchased by Nicoma Bloodstock on behalf of Nancy in 2003. Then at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga, a HAVRE DE GRACE half-brother, bred by Nancy and consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, brought $1.2 million, becoming the co-sale topper.
"During the bidding I was holding my breath. Headley kept saying, ‘Breathe!' It was thrilling, absolutely thrilling. I was hoping for a million dollars, and so when the million arrived, I just enjoyed the next two bids. It was wonderful for me being such a small breeder. I can have a little pocket change, give everybody a bonus that works for me, and buy a new broodmare."
