Amerman Racing homebred "TDN Rising Star" Oscar Performance has a victory in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, running his win streak to three for trainer Brian Lynch. The well-bred 2-year-old crossed the wire a convincing 1 1/4-length winner. A bit overlooked the bay got over nicely from the 13 post and secured position locked on the flank of Wellabled. Rider Jose Ortiz turned up the pressure midway on the bend and moved to establish control in upper stretch. Well clear with a furlong to run, the son of Kitten's Joy held firmly over Lancaster Bomber to give Lynch his first Breeders' Cup success. "Absolutely fantastic," Lynch commented. "You always hope that it's in the stars and it's lovely when they all line up. He's always been a little bit above the other 2-year-olds and we've worked him with the older horses and he sat and waited lovely and kicked it in in his works, so it was nice to see it all come to play today." Ortiz, who also notched his first Breeders' Cup win added, "I had a perfect trip. He broke very alertly. I put myself where I wanted to be, right behind the speed. Approaching the half-mile pole I felt I had a lot of horse underneath me, so I just kind of waited until I crossed the quarter pole to unleash him. Oscar Performance represents the second winner at the World Championships for John and Jerry Amerman, who captured the 2003 GI Breeders' Cup Distaff with Adoration.

Reddam Racing's Frank Conversation drastically reversed his form and got up late to pull off a 35-1 shocker in the GII Twilight Derby Friday at Santa Anita. The bay, rallied to run down pacesetter Free Rose in the dying strides to earn his second graded stakes success. Racing in sixth past the wire the first time, the Doug O'Neill trainee found himself at the fore of the second flight behind a quarter-mile in :22.54 and was guided off the rail as the field condensed through a half in :45.88. Angled six wide into the lane with Free Rose to run down, Frank Conversation's outside course proved to be the best option, sweeping to the front in deep stretch while other rivals were held up in traffic.
