Few racing programs had greater success in the early 2000’s than The Thoroughbred Corp established in 1994 by principal partner Prince Ahmed bin Salman and his key advisor and college friend Richard Mulhall. Indicative of their success, Throughbred Corp was one of only four owners to have ever raced a Kentucky Derby winner, War Emblem and Epsom Derby winner Oath. Mill Ridge was fortunate to raise multiple G1 winners including, SPAIN, 2000 Breeders’ Cup Distaff G1 and retired as the richest mare in North American history; JOHAR, 2003 Breeders’ Cup Turf G1; DESSERT, 2003 Del Mar Debutante S. G1; HABIBTI (bought from Mill Ridge), 2001 Del Mar Debutante s. G1and 2001 U.S. Horse of the Year; POINT GIVEN, who won multiple G1’s including classics Preakness and Belmont and earned $4 million.
Few people know what a special friendship Prince Ahmed and Alice Chandler enjoyed. The story goes that on one of his visits, Alice was admiring a Jeep the Prince was driving and made easier to inspect his mares in the fields. The next day a shiny new Jeep arrived at Mill Ridge for her to enjoy. This exemplifies the generosity and love of Mill Ridge and Alice and all that she represented.
