Diamond Bachelor

September 17, 2013

Diamond Bachelor won the Oak Tree Juvenile Turf S. at Del Mar of Sept. 4.  This War Front colt out of the mare Seasoned is now 2 for 2.

“TDN Rising Star”  Diamond Bachelor kept his perfect record intact and earned his first black-type score in this test. The flashy dark bay was an impressive 3 1/2-length debut winner over this course-and-distance Aug. 8, which earned him heavy backingin this initial stakes attempt. He broke sharply and went right to the lead, whistling through an opening quarter in :21.87 and caught a breather through a half in :46. Diamond Bachelor was well clear in the stretch and cruised home to an uncontested victory. Ontology made a smart rally to be second. "We let him roll a little bit more this time," trainer Patrick Biancone said. "He's very fast from the gate anyway so I told Julien [Leparoux] just get him out of there and then do what you do in the mornings. Timing the next step properly is now important. I think I'm going to stay on the turf with him this year. Next year will be different. This horse can win the Derby. He is one of the best at [his] age I've ever trained. [That said], it's a long way from the cup to the lips."
