TAKEITTOTHEEDGE, c, 3, Broken Vow/1st Dam: Willathewest, by Gone West

Takeittotheedge took solid public support at odds of 4-1 for this career unveiling and won with complete authority at Gulfstream Park Saturday, becoming the newest TDN Rising Star. The colt chestnut posted a steady series of works and had a bullet five-furlong gate breeze in :59.73 Feb. 27. Sent straight to the front, the colt led through fractions of :23.04 and :46.24. Takeittotheedge received a couple of right handed taps to keep his mind on business and pulled away to notch a 7 3/4-length victory over longshot Cheyenne Bull (Curlin). The winner's dam is a half-sister to GSW & GISP Willa On The Move (Two Punch) and his second dam is a half-sister to GI Travers S. hero Will's Way. This is also the extended family of MGISW Tizway (Tiznow). Takeittotheedge sold for $135,000 as a KEESEP yearling. Willathewest foaled a colt by Hat Trick (Jpn) in 2015 and was covered by GI Breeders' Cup Classic hero Blame last year. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000. O-Bakster Farm LLC; B-Mill Ridge Farm et al (KY); T-Dale L. Romans.

On Friday in the 2nd race @ TAMPA $20,000, Msw, 3-4, 3yo, f, 1 1/16m, 1:47.04, ft.

NOT TAKEN (f, 3, Arch--Spelling {GSP, $161,710}, made her debut  displaying speed, professionalism and gameness to get the job done. The bay filly, bet down to 2-1 second choice,  settled on the rail under Daniel Centeno to afford 4-5 favorite Caffeine (Medaglia d’Oro) the lead heading into the first turn. Maintaining her foothold at the fence, the $150,000 OBS April buy re-engaged the leader midway down the backside and shook that one off under a hand ride rounding the far turn. Encountering a fresh challenge from Construe (Hard Spun), Not Taken battled that one gamely through an exciting stretch drive to win by a half-length on the wire. The winner is a half to Spelling Again (Awesome Again), GSW, $331,426; and Sky Willow (Empire Maker), SW, $114,979. Record: 1-1-0-0, $12,000. O-Gatsas Stable; B-Mill Ridge Farm et al (KY); T-John P. Terranova II.
