Oscar Performance wins another G1!

August 14, 2017

Congratulations for our friends/clients, John & Jerry Amerman.  Another win for their outstanding colt OSCAR PERFORMANCE.  Proud to say he was foaled and raised at Mill Ridge Farm.  Nicoma assisted with the mating.

"TDN Rising Star" Oscar Performance cemented his status as this country's best sophomore turf runner with a comprehensive success in Saturday's GI Secretariat S. at Arlington International.  Sonic Boom, last-out winner of the GIII American Derby, was fastest away and set a modest early tempo beneath Julien Leparoux as Oscar Performance was only to happy to stalk that one to its outside.  Oscar Performance was still traveling comfortably, waiting for his cue from Jose Ortiz. The top two put a few lengths on the second flight with a quarter-mile to travel, and  Oscar Performance easily claimed Sonic Boom at the  reesixteenths before striding home a much-the-best winner.

Pedigree Notes: John and Jerry Amerman campaigned Oscar Performance's dam to three wins from six starts, including the Santa Lucia S. The winner's third dam, a full-sister to GISW Dramatic Gold, produced Sorcerer's Stone (Gulch), winner of this track's GIII Arlington-Washington Futurity. Devine Actress is the dam of 2-year-old filly Emmy Performance (Point of Entry), a yearling colt by Ghostzapper and was barren to Flatter for 2017.

Divining Rod, the 2015 GIII Coolmore Lexington S. hero and third to American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in the GI Preakness S., was laid up for over a year returning with a pair of Parx wins last September. Runner-up in the GII Hagyard Fayette S. Oct. 29, the homebred came tantalizingly close to a top-level tally when outnodded in the GI Cigar Mile H. last out Nov. 26 at Aqueduct, and he was made the heavy chalk to make a winning 5-year-old debut here. Away well the dark bay was taken in hand to sit second through a :23.44 quarter. Creeping up to even terms passing a :47.06 half, he kicked away at the top of the lane and never gave any closers a chance, coming home a dominant winner.
